Hello,

sorry for the late reply, your post somehow slipped through. ?
This seems to be an issue which exists on very few systems only, so we'd appriciate if you would let us know how this worked out for you and which of the following steps was solving the issue.

To solve the issue please try the following steps:

1) Perform a Network Reset. In the VPN Manager -> Settings -> Other

2) If this did not help:
- Uninstall the VPN Manager

- Verify the directory "C:\Programs (x86)\Perfect Privacy VPN Manager" is really gone

- Restart the computer (important!)
- Reinstall the VPN Manager
- Perform a Network Reset. In the VPN Manager -> Settings -> Other

Hello,

This seems to be an issue which exists on very few systems only, so we'd appriciate if you would let us know how this worked out for you and which of the following steps was solving the issue.

To solve the issue please try the following steps:

1) Perform a Network Reset. In the VPN Manager -> Settings -> Other

2) If this did not help:
- Uninstall the VPN Manager

- Verify the directory "C:\Programs (x86)\Perfect Privacy VPN Manager" is really gone

- Restart the computer (important!)
- Reinstall the VPN Manager
- Perform a Network Reset. In the VPN Manager -> Settings -> Other
- Is it working now?
- If not:
-- Are the TAP adapters present in the system's Device Manager? (Start button -> All apps -> Windows System -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager: Network adapters. Maybe activate in the menu View -> Show hidden devices to really see all of the devices)
-- If not:
--- Restart the Computer
--- Are the TAP adapters there after rebooting?

3) If this did not help:

- Open a Commandline (type "cmd" in the search bar) and execute the following command (omitting the "): "dism /online /get-drivers /format:table" to see which TAP adapters are installed. What is the output (can you copy & paste it here)? Are there multiple TAP adapters?
- Replacing the XXX with the number visible in the driver table execute the command "pnputil.exe -d oemXXX.inf" to delete the drivers, which is worth a try.
- Afterwards perform a Network Reset. In the VPN Manager -> Settings -> Other

4) If all of this did not help:

Please provide the following information:
- Which Windows Version?
- Which VPN servers?
- The connection log (magnifying glass icon in the VPN Manager)

- The output of the commands "ipconfig" and "route print -4" while you are connected to the VPN sevrers and wait for confirmation

Solution
Not OP, but I have the same problem, getting these two error messages:

hAEgb7X.png

xbIllLF.png

I haven't been able to solve it with the above steps. Here is what I've done so far

1: tried this, then immediately got the same error after closing the settings window.
2: Uninstalled the VPN Manager. Rebooted. Reinstalled. Did the network reset. Same result as above. TAP adapters were not visible. Restarted the computer. After that, the TAP adapters were visible. Started the VPN Manager. At this point, the TAP adapters disappeared from the Device Manager and the VPN Manager showed the same error messages as before.
3: tried the command line, got the following output:

(I ran into the character limit enforced by this forum; please see post below)

I don't know which of these are TAP adapters so I'm a little hesitant to mess with this or delete things. There are multiple oemx.inf and oemxx.inf, so with one or two digits respectively. Don't know which is which. Which one do you recommend I delete, if any?

By the way, I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit.

I haven't tried connecting to literally every single server, but so far I'm getting the same errors with every single one of them.

Worse yet, I cannot seem to disconnect afterwards, nor quit the VPN manager. It just stays stuck on "Connecting to [server]" forever. This was a real problem with the firewall and DNS leak protections still on, as it prevented me from connecting to the internet entirely until I realised I had to reboot the computer and turn those protections off if I wanted to do anything.

Would appreciate any guidance in this because I cannot use your VPN services at all now.

Here is the output I got from the command line in step 3:

Code:

Windows 8.1 seems to cause more trouble than Windows 10 does. A member in the german part of the forum had the same problem, here is a translation of his post:

The problem (occurred) for me with Win 8.1! The PP Manager could not install any TAP adapters correctly, and it automatically deleted the existing ones (after a Win restart). I have no idea whether the problem was ultimately with the PP Manager, Windows or OpenVPN. What is certain is that this folder was missing for me "C:\Program Files\TAP-Windows"

Now, after trying around for hours, this one helped: OpenVPN v. 2.4.9. (for Windows 8.1) install! (File: openvpn-install-2.4.9-I601-Win7.exe)

The latest version of OpenVPN did not work! With v.2.4.9 the TAP-Windows folder is also created and PP-Manager works perfectly.

How I finally fixed the error:

- Uninstall PP Manager
- Restart Windows
- Install PP Manager, but do not start!
- OpenVPN v. 2.4.9. install with default settings (important: install TAP Virtual Ethernet Adapter)
- Open PP Manager, reset network

Even after uninstalling OpenVPN, the PP Manager still works perfectly. I'm a bit confused myself, but the main thing is that it works again.

It worked! Thanks so much. Funny thing, I actually got "An error occurred installing the TAP device driver" when installing OpenVPN 2.4.9., but it worked regardless. Thanks for the information and translation.

@FAN
